Cloud-certification study can begin with official learning resources before you decide whether to buy a course or book an examination. The useful budget separates learning access, practice environments and the certification attempt itself. Those are different products, even when they appear on the same provider website. This guide uses official AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud information checked on October 20, 2026. Listed prices can change and may vary by region or tax treatment. It does not rank certifications, claim course-testing experience or promise employment outcomes.
Choose the learning objective before comparing fees
Start with the platform and work you want to understand. A foundational overview, an administrator role and an advanced architecture credential are different learning objectives. Comparing their exam prices without recognising those differences can make a cheap but unsuitable option look attractive.
Read the current exam guide and identify topics you already know and topics that need study. Keep the exam code and version with the plan. A course that uses a familiar certification name may still cover an older syllabus or a different depth of knowledge.
If an employer or education programme expects a particular credential, confirm the exact requirement before purchasing. A course-completion badge or lab achievement may demonstrate learning without satisfying that requirement. The label “certificate” does not make every award interchangeable.
Start by mapping official learning options
AWS’s digital-training page describes free self-paced learning alongside paid subscriptions and other formats. Its certification FAQ states that training is recommended but not mandatory for completing AWS certification. That does not mean preparation is unnecessary; it means buying a particular course is not automatically a prerequisite.
Microsoft’s Azure Fundamentals page links preparation, practice and the AZ-900 study guide. Use the official page to establish the intended topics and available resources before comparing third-party products. Check the access and price information attached to each resource rather than assuming every linked option has the same terms.
Google Cloud’s Cloud Digital Leader page provides an exam guide and learning path. Its business-oriented description should be read on its own terms, not treated as equivalent to an advanced technical qualification. The official learning path helps organise preparation, but completing it is separate from earning the certification.
Separate three purchases or activities
- Learning: reading, videos and structured instruction.
- Practice: exercises, labs and readiness checks.
- Certification: meeting the issuer’s requirements and passing the relevant assessment.
Record current exam prices with their scope
At the date checked, AWS’s FAQ lists Business-category and Foundational exams at US$100, Associate exams at US$150, and Professional and Specialty exams at US$300, with applicable taxes possible. It also describes local-currency pricing. These are issuer-listed exam amounts, not complete study budgets or guarantees about your final checkout total.
Google Cloud’s Cloud Digital Leader page lists a standard examination registration fee of $99 plus applicable tax. Confirm the displayed currency and final local checkout terms before paying. The page also describes renewal options separately, so a renewal price should not be substituted for a first certification attempt.
Microsoft’s Azure Fundamentals page says the exam price depends on the country or region where it is proctored. Obtain the applicable amount through the official scheduling route. A price copied from another country or an old promotional article may not describe your booking.
| Reference | Published pricing information | What remains to check |
|---|---|---|
| AWS exam categories | US$100 Business/Foundational; US$150 Associate; US$300 Professional/Specialty | Exact exam, local currency and tax |
| Microsoft Azure Fundamentals | Price based on proctoring country or region | Current booking amount and any applicable eligibility terms |
| Google Cloud Digital Leader standard exam | Page lists $99 plus applicable tax | Currency, local checkout and standard versus renewal route |
Buy additional learning only for a defined gap
After reviewing the syllabus and available resources, identify what you still need: instructor feedback, a structured timetable, a particular lab or additional explanation. Price that gap rather than collecting overlapping subscriptions. A larger catalogue is useful only if it contains material you will actually use.
AWS’s training page distinguishes monthly and annual subscription offerings and additional features. Do not compare them as identical products using duration alone if the included resources differ. Read the current feature list and decide whether those differences matter to your plan.
For a separate fictional example, suppose an optional study subscription costs 25 per month and you plan two charged months. That adds 50. If an invented exam amount is 120 and other chosen material costs 20, the planned total is 190 before any tax or additional charges. These fictional figures are not the provider prices listed above.
If the same subscription runs for five months, its cost becomes 125 and the fictional total becomes 265. The additional 75 comes from duration, not a change in the exam fee. A realistic schedule therefore belongs in the financial plan.
Understand where lab resources run and who pays
Some practice experiences provide a temporary environment within the learning service. Others ask learners to use their own cloud account. Check which applies before starting an exercise. A course fee does not automatically include every resource created in a separately billed account.
Read the exercise’s setup and cleanup instructions and the applicable service pricing. Identify what remains active after the lesson ends. If a free allowance or credit is offered, check its scope and expiry rather than treating “free” as a promise of unlimited use.
Keep laboratory spending separate from examination and subscription costs. A small usage charge can be easy to overlook when it appears on a different account. Use the provider’s available billing controls appropriately, while checking whether an alert is informational or actually enforces a limit.
Check the booking conditions before committing
Read identification, delivery and technical requirements for the selected examination. A remote appointment may require a suitable environment and equipment, while a test-centre visit can involve travel. Confirm those practical arrangements before choosing a date.
Ask how cancellation, rescheduling, vouchers and unsuccessful attempts are handled under the current issuer policy. Do not assume that a training subscription includes an exam or that an exam purchase includes a retake. Put any contingent additional attempt in a separate budget scenario.
If a voucher or promotion is relevant, verify the exact eligible exam, region, expiry and conditions. An unverified discount should not be used to make the budget appear affordable. Keep the terms that applied when the purchase was made.
Review readiness and the purpose of the credential
Use official objectives and permitted practice resources to identify remaining gaps. Completing videos is not the same as understanding the material, and an assessment score from one practice resource is not a guarantee of passing another examination.
Consider whether the learning itself meets your immediate goal even before booking. If a credential is required, plan the assessment separately and retain the current requirements. Avoid treating an exam date as a reason to buy every resource offered at checkout.
A practical study-budget sequence

Common questions
Must I buy official AWS training to take an AWS exam?
AWS’s cited FAQ says training is recommended but not mandatory for completing certification. You still need suitable preparation and must follow the current requirements for the exact exam.
Does a free learning resource include a certification attempt?
Do not assume so. Learning access, practice and the examination are separate items unless the offer explicitly combines them. Check what is included before building the budget.
Are all foundational cloud credentials equivalent?
No. Platforms, objectives and intended audiences differ. Compare the syllabus and the recipient’s requirements rather than assuming similar labels or prices establish interchangeable qualifications.
Are the listed AWS prices my final checkout total?
Not necessarily. They are the issuer’s published US-dollar exam amounts at the checked date. Local currency, tax and the exact booking conditions can affect the amount you pay.
Why is there no single Azure Fundamentals price here?
Microsoft states that pricing depends on the proctoring country or region. Use the official booking route for the applicable amount instead of relying on a price from another location.
Can I use a renewal fee for my first exam budget?
No. A renewal route has its own eligibility conditions. Check whether you need the standard examination or qualify for a particular renewal option before comparing fees.
Does a paid subscription cover all cloud usage?
Not automatically. Determine whether exercises use an included temporary environment or your separately billed account, and review the resource and cleanup instructions before starting.
Is an annual subscription always cheaper than monthly access?
Compare both duration and included features. If the products differ, dividing the annual price by twelve does not establish that they provide the same value for your study plan.
Does completing a learning path guarantee a pass?
No. It records progress through learning material, while an examination assesses the issuer’s objectives. Use appropriate practice and review remaining gaps without treating completion as a guarantee.
Are the fictional study totals provider offers?
No. The 25-per-month example is separate from the dated official pricing references. Obtain current prices and terms for every resource you actually intend to purchase.
